Oliver’s Almanack of World Football 2010 was published in March 2010 and covers world football in the 2008, 2008-09 and 2009 seasons. In its fifth year Oliver’s Almanack has had a minor redesign which has included a new name.
We are also now publishing the book in association with FIFA.com while readers will benefit from new style front page for each country which includes a scaled map. We have also altered the publication date to reflect the ‘calendar year in football’ and we will continue to publish early in the new year every year.
Because of the new publishing date, Oliver’s Almanack of World Football 2010 covers 18 months of events in world football. There are match details of all 853 qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa and there is full coverage of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola won by Egypt for an unprecidented third time in a row and the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup, won by Mexico after a resounding 5-0 win over hosts USA.
As usual there is unrivalled coverage of the major continental club competitions. Barcelona UEFA Champions League triumph – part of an historic treble for the club and one of six trophies won during 2009 – is covered in full as is the launch of the new CONCACAF Champions League, won by Mexico’s Atlante. There are details of Al Ahly’s record sixth success and TP Mazemebe’s first title for over 30 years in the 2008 and 2009 CAF African Champions League tournaments while there is also full coverage of Gamba Osaka’s 2008 AFC Asian Champions League triumph and Pohang Steelers triumph in 2009.
As usual there is comprehensive coverage of League and Cup tournaments around the world including Manchester United’s record equalling 18th League title in England, a first Bundesliga title for VfL Wolfsburg in Germany while at the other end of the scale, if you want to know the scores in the American Samoan championship that was brought to a halt by the Tsunami of October 2009, look no futher than Oliver’s Almanack of World Football 2010.
